Rescuers Memorial. Behind the Tree of Life is a monument to those who rescued Hungarian Jews.
Imre Varga designed this "Tree of Life" memorial which has a metal leaf with the name of each victim murdered by the Nazis.  The sculpture sits on top of the mass grave.
Contrary to Jewish Tradition the synagogue has mass graves surrounding the building of synagogue.  These graves are of synagogue members who died during WWII before the Hungarian Jews were deported to Auschwitz in 1944.
Interior of the Great Synagogue has a very church like look.  This building dates from a time  when Jews felt very much at home in Hungary.
The Great Synagogue built in 1859.  It is the largest synagogue in the world outside of New York City.
