Ermine 2
Ermine
European weasel appearing in the mouth of a large hole after hunting for voles.
Ermine 2976
Our route takes us up and over Loveland Pass at almost 12,000 feet. This Long-tailed Weasel in its winter white pelage seems to have no trouble with the elevation. (Photo by guide Chris Benesh)
The entire sequence may have taken a minute or two.
I took these images from a moving car. I found the Ermine along a quiet stretch and followed until he went under the snow.
This is a very aggresive little fellow and takes small birds and ground critters.
Ready for another leap. He is a speedy little fellow. Note the black tipped tail which is typical of the Ermine.
