I found this pair of the rarest of geese while exploring Haleakala. This is the Hawaiian nene and it is the rarest goose in the world. It’s almost extinct. Endemic to the Hawaiian islands and living mostly in the upper elevations of Maui and Hawaii, it is also the state bird. It also makes a very strange noise, unlike any other goose! I used a 500 mm lens so as not to disturb them.
