College Europa loses 2-1 against Saudi Arabia Under 23 in Gibraltar
Rock Cup Finalist College Europa Fc were today defeated by 2 goals to one by a physically stronger and fitter Saudi Arabia Under 23 Olympic national team at the Victoria Stadium GIbraltar.
College Europa are preparing for their debut in the Europa League qualifiers at the end of this month. The UEFA draw will take place tomorrow.
The Gibraltar side performed well throughout the match, but saw themselves opened up on several occassions by a stronger Saudi team who were well adjusted to the midday summer heat.
The Saudi physio was called upon on several occassions to assist College Europa players after several head injuries were sustained throughout the match. In one incident a player required stitches to his head.
College Europa opened up the scoring, with the Saudi team coming back just before half time through a penalty. A second penalty was saved by the College Europa substitute keeper, before going 2-1.
A physically challenging match for the College Europa team saw them go down 2-1 against a Saudi Arabia Under 23 side. Both sets of managers were warned by the referees assistant after complaints from both side about the harsh tackles seen through the match.
