This area has been hit by forest fires on two seperate occasions. In 1968 wildfires burned 2950 hectares of forest over a period of three days. Once again the Vermilion Pass was swept with wildfire burning out of control in August of 2003. Driven bt strong winds the only thing that kept the fire from reaching the main Bow Valley, and the Banff/Lake Louise area was a Parks Canada Fireguard. The crescent moon rising over Mount Ishbel in the front ranges of Banff National Park. Note: This is a composite image; one for the moon, and one for the mountain. The crescent moon does not rise in this location, nor would it be this large, but that's where I wanted it :-)
