Afternoon at Devils Tower
Devils Tower, which rises 1,267 feet above the surrounding land, was the first declared US National Monument, established by President Theodore Roosevelt on September 24, 1906. It is made essentially of the leftover igneous rock from a now-eroded volcano. Although it is essentially in the middle of nowhere, and therefore a bit of a commitment to physically visit, when the afternoon sun paints a single side of it, it is quite a sight to see.
