Miland 'Mille' Petrozza and Sami Yli-Sirniö of Kreator, 9/25/2012, The Regency Ballroom, San Francisco Another impossible week to choose photos from. I shot Serj Tankian, Swallow The Sun, Accept, Kreator, Obituary and few smaller bands. I ended up not selecting the best shot of the week, but the one that has the most meaning to me. Kreator band has a special place in my heart for few reasons. One of the first metal albums I had was Extreme Aggression which I still listen to regularly. Additionally it has Finnish guitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö, who is also known for his work in Waltari.
Tyr, 9/11/2012, DNA Lounge, San Francisco It's not every week you get photos of half naked rockers from Faroe Islands. Tyr is one of very few bands that have more fans on Facebook than the whole population of their home country. This folk-metal band takes old Norse tales and turns them into metal songs. They have been getting more and more popular around the world and signed record deal with Metal Blade Records right after the tour where I had the privilege to photograph them.

This is one of the most famous old churches in the U.S., having been painted by Georgia O'Keefe and photographed by Ansel Adams (along with a few gazillion amateurs like me). I'm sure that I photographed this church back in 1970, when I first passed through Taos … but I guess I didn't save the photo. Anyway, since it has been photographed so often, and by so many really famous photographers, I felt pretty frustrated when I came back to see it this time: how on earth could I photograph it any differently from everyone else? Well, this was my attempt. It won't win any prizes, but hopefully it's at least a teensy bit different. I simply put my camera down on the ground, used a cable release so that I didn't have to lie down on the ground with the camera, and then took a few shots. Some of them were pointed in the wrong direction, but this one came out reasonably well. If you want to know more about the church, take a look at this Wikipedia article.
