The Milky Way by Moonlight - North Cascades, Washington State
I've been sitting on this shot for nearly a year now. It was captured on a 2 night backpacking trip in North Cascades National Park last September.
As the moonset in the West the entire horizon lit up with a hazy orange glow. The Milky Way was rising in the South which made for a really nice scene.
I had my tent setup a 15 minute hike straight above this location but didn't end up returning to sleep until around 4 AM. At that point twilight could be seen and I packed my stuff up to head out by 8 AM.
This specific night there was an amazing sunset over the mountain range to the south. The Ptarmigan Traverse backpacking / climbing route weaves it's way throughout the mountains and glaciers seen in the distant background.
Gotta love the North Cascades!
Enjoy & Thanks for Looking,
