The "fruit" or seed of an American Sycamore tree (Platanus occidentalis),  hangs like a spiky mace ball in Eastern Washington. These trees, also known as Buttonwood, can grow quite large - up to 98 to 130 ft (30 to 40 meters) high and 4.9 to 6.6 ft  (1.5 to 2 meters) in diameter
