Dried grass seed head. If you look at the original size, you might be able to see that each fine bristle is lined with tiny (and I do mean tiny) saw-tooth projections. Nature is amazing! (To provide some sense of scale, I believe the entire seed head was 3-4 inches long, so each bristle was 1-2 inches long.) Matthaei Botanical Gardens, Ann Arbor, Michigan November 27, 2012
