Five muddy piglets enjoying the Colorado sun. I went out to Mark and Liorah Wiggens’ ranch this morning to take photos of farm animals. I fell in love with the British heitage pigs, known as Large Blacks. The sow (Matilda) was sound asleep while six chubby piglets vied for sleeping space. Matilda weighs about 500 pounds but can run like a deer if she hears a distressed squeal. It is quite a sight to see a five hundred pound sow leap to her feet and rush towards the fence!
I took photos of cattle, chickens and sheep but really the pigs were my favourite subjects.
because the pigs were very muddy and they are naturally black - it was hard to create definition! They seemed to blend into the mud. Their ears face forward at ridiculous angle, like leathery grey sails.
I edited this with a close crop and then cloned out the backside of another piglet to get down to five! I used EfexPro and chose one of their frames. I really enjoyed my time at the ranch.
