Patti at Alum Cave Bluff
The peregrines nest on the cliff above Alum Cave; we always stop for a rest here to listen to them and enjoy the view.
Jeane and a massive rhododendron
On the upper elevations of the trail, where it levels out, is a grove of young Fraser Firs smelling very much like Christmas.
At the Mt. LeConte lodge we rest in comfy rocking chairs, buy candy bars and souvenirs, use the nice latrine, and refill our camelbaks before starting the long walk down the mountain.
We always take our first sit-down-and-snack break on this spectactular heath bald, where, if we're lucky, we might see or hear the Peregrine Falcons nesting above Alum Cave.

Jeane is rested and ready to continue down.
After 2hours we emerge at the river. The walking stick was a good addition.
