Every nigt at 7pm a small prayer ceremonie takes place at the Assi Ghat which consists of numerous rituals, from bell ringing, incense burning in a perfusion of smoke, flowers throwing in the air, candles burning, this all for the Holy River Ganges.
Assi Ghat is the most Southern Ghat in Varanasi and is a sacred place as pilgrims offer prayers to a huge shivalingam placed under a peepal tree, after bathing in the river.
Varanasi, also Benares,or Kashi, is a city on the banks of the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh. It is the holliest of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism.
