Almost certainly either a horse chestnut or a red horse chestnut.

Aesculus 01 10-2012
Common horse chestnut, Aesculus hippocastanum
Family Sapindaceae (recent assignment) Native to North America
This is a tree that can reach noble proportions. Even so, the candelabra of cream colored blossoms that typically cover the tree when in bloom aren't really very showy.

Aesculus 02 05-2012

Red Horse Chestnut, Aesculus x carnea
To my eye, the main appeal of the blossoms is in the mass of color spread over the entire tree, viewed from a distance. Seen close up, individual blossoms are more interesting than beautiful. But that's just my opinion.
