3/6/14 - Hummingbird; we were at the zoo and were looking into the lion enclosure from a cave-like glassed-in viewing point. A hummingbird had flown into it and was exhausting itself at the glass. I tried to get it to turn around and fly back out but it was panicked. Finally, it just dropped to the bottom of the window and sat there. I reached over and very carefully picked it up. It did not resist at all. I carried it outside and opened my hand. After a few seconds, it flew off. It was such a neat moment. I felt good to think that I may have saved the little guy. Lots of people were standing around watching it, but no one seemed to realize that the little bird could literally kill itself from exhaustion.
For purposes of scale, I have a very small hand.
Thanks for your warm response to my shot of the ferruginous hawk. Your comments are really appreciated!
