Male Anna's Hummingbird "Calypte anna" going after another hummingbird trying to feed from his feeder. Medium-sized hummingbird reaching about 9 to 10 cm in length. Shot in my back yard in Gig Harbor Washington 02/25/2011.
A female Anna's Hummingbird "Calypte anna" that has taken up winter residense in my garden. She actively guards the two feeders that I have place for her chasing any other birds away if they try for a free meal.

In keeping with the red theme, this was one of my first attempts to capture a Hummingbird. Spent the weekend in San Diego last summer and had this chance encounter with a hummingbird in the Spanish Village in Balboa Park. The red background is one of the colorful doors of the Spanish Village shops.
