Sailing To Paradise
Last week, our nomad travels took us to the south island of New Zealand. We took the Interislander ferry from Wellington on the North Island to Picton on the South Island. The cruise is often referred to as one of the most beautiful in the world and people really aren't exaggerating.
The journey takes about three hours with a large amount of that time spent navigating the beautiful waterways at the tip of the north island. As you approach the island it looks like one beautiful hilly mass of land with no room for a ship! However as you get closer you notice a narrow channel between the mountains. We sailed into the gap and slowly worked through the channel until we arrived at the picturesque marina town of Picton.
Picton is the gateway to the south island and we enjoyed spending just under a week there. The area is beautiful to look at and if you enjoy hiking you will find many trails around Queen Charlotte Sound and the various cliffs and bays.
