Second Temple Mikveh Uncovered in Jerusalem, Israel
Jerusalem, Israel. 1st July, 2015. A 2,000 year old Jewish ritual bath, a mikveh, was discovered below a living room floor during renovations in a private house in the neighborhood of Ein Kerem. This reinforces the hypothesis that there was a Jewish settlement in Ein Kerem at the time of the Second Temple and strengthens the tradition that John the Baptist was indeed born here and his pregnant mother Elisabeth met here with Mary, mother of Jesus.
