The John Paul Jones House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire was the home of Captain Gregory Purcell and his wife. It was built in 1758 by master housewright Hopestill Cheswell, a successful African-American builder. After Captain Purcell's death in 1776 his widow took in boarders. American naval hero John Paul Jones rented a room in the house while constructing the ship "America" in 1781 and 1782, . This is the only surviving building in the United States known to be associated with John Paul Jones.
Tanner Jones will be graduating from Alta this year and I shot his graduation portrait here at the studio. Tanner is pretty laid back and his images reflect his easy going personality. I’ve been working with the Katy and Dow Jones shooting portraits of their family and kids starting back in 1996. I’ve been shooting Katy Jones’ family portraits for years and she was interested in a shoot up the canyon with fall colors. We watched the leaves change and coordinated the shoot at the peak of the colors on a perfect autumn afternoon. We hiked around Mill D South up Big Cottonwood Canyon and captured a ton of great shots. This image makes a great panoramic portrait to go over the fireplace.
