Produced by Douglas Aircraft, the C47A is the military version of commercial aircraft DC-3.
While used extensively in both theaters of WWII by the U.S. Army Air Force, it perhaps is most known for participation in the D-Day invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe.
The aircraft was popularly referred to as a “Gooney Bird” by troops serving in the Pacific war with Japan.
