Life After Joint Replacement Surgery: AAMC Joint Center- Faye Byrne's Story

Call 443-481-1698 for more information on the Joint Center or visit http://www.AAHS.org/joint.

Faye Byrne, a former AAMC knee replacement patient, talks about how she got her life back after having knee replacement surgery. Knee pain kept Faye from doing many of the activities she loves. "I couldn't do any of the things I wanted to do, like gardening and walking and decided I wanted my life back," says Faye. "The only way to do that was to have the surgery."

Recommended to Dr. James MacDonald by a friend who was a nurse, she felt totally at ease with his recommendations. She was pleased that Dr. MacDonald didn't pressure her to have the surgery, and left the decision entirely in her hands.

Continues Faye, "I won't be confined to the house; I''ll be able to go out and garden, I'll be able to go out and walk, kayak... All the things I used to enjoy!"

She characterizes the care as "absolutely superb," a description heard often from AAMC Joint replacement patients. The ability to exercise with other joint patients twice every day and seeing their progress was extremely helpful in her recovery. Her husband Bill was allowed to stay with her much of the time during her stay. This helped him understand what was necessary for her care after she went home.

Both now always recommend Anne Arundel Medical Center to anyone and everyone they talk to.
