River Boat - St. Kilda Road Bridge, Melbourne, Victoria
St. Kilda Road Bridge - Melbourne, Victoria
In Australia, Easter has got to be the best holiday…. even better than Christmas! Four days off in a row cannot be bad… and if you bookend these days with a couple of days off from work, it really gives you the opportunity to unwind, and go out and shoot. The Easter of April 2013 was a wet one, but on Easter Monday, we had a break of about 4 hours when the sun came out at sunrise and provided a pretty decent morning to go out and shoot.

Sunrises in early autumn in Melbourne are around 7:00a.m. I headed out of the house at 6:45a.m., and comfortably made it to St. Kilda Marina. The air was still; the wind had not picked up, and with Marina being generally shielded from the waters of the bay, the dead calm waters provided a perfect reflection for the boats in the early morning sunrise.

This part of St. Kilda has gone through a bit of a renovation over recent times, and as the pier gets a revamp, it will continue to draw crowds for time to come. If you’re in Melbourne on a weekend, this part of town is definitely worth a visit in the early morning, or at sundown.
