"O" is for OPRAH
“Some women have a weakness for shoes. I can go barefoot if necessary. I have a weakness for books. Books were my pass to personal freedom. I learned to read at age three, and there discovered was a whole world to conquer that went beyond our farm in Mississippi.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

In last Sunday's commentary, I mentioned that Oprah was one of my inspirations for wearing scarves - a subtle "hint" to what I would post for today's "O" day. Although this is a compilation of a very select few "O" magazines, my current collection extends from July 2009 - November 2013. Like Oprah, I developed a love of reading, writing, and speaking during my early formative years. I'm certain that this can be attributed to the many educators (grandmother, parents, and aunts) in our family and the nuns who were my teachers at Sacred Heart Catholic School (a private school that along with my two sisters, I attended from from K - 2nd grade). I'm told that due to a lack of funding, unfortunately, the school closed at the completion of my second grade school year. From there, we were educated in the public school system and went on to graduate from college.
"Oprah Gail Winfrey (born January 29, 1954) is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist. Winfrey is best known for her multi-award-winning talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show which was the highest-rated program of its kind in history and was nationally syndicated from 1986 to 2011. She has been ranked the richest African-American of the 20th century, the greatest black philanthropist in American history, and is currently North America's only black billionaire. She is also, according to some assessments, the most influential woman in the world. She is a graduate of Tennessee State University." ~ Reprinted text from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oprah_Winfrey

Next Sunday is "P" day of Donna McCommon's "Alphabet Challenge." Tina Gardner (aka "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Bras" and "IndigoStudios") has requested that we post a pink image for "P" day, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I am ready; are you?
Have a blessed day and remember, "Reading is still FUNdamental!"
