While driving from Broome to Perth a couple of years ago, record breaking rains occurred over the Gascoyne area and closed the North West Coastal highway, necesssitating a trip down through Mount Newman on the inland route.
After an overnight stop at the Auski Roadhouse and an early rise hoping to get some dawn shots over the Hamersleys, I was disapointed to set off in drizzle and heavy overcast in the pre-dawn darkness wondering whether I would be able to skip past the record flooding further south.
After stopping at Munjini Gorge for half an hour and shooting off a number of disapointing images I gave up and continued my journey, and surprisingly 25km down the road a shaft of sunlight broke through the overcast.
A quick pull over and a scramble for the camera (no time for a tripod) I managed to capture this image.
You never know when a photo opportunity will arise, and this is another one of my favourites
