I visited Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks in late September, 2009. A road closure caused by a fire in Yellowstone National Park forced me to take a different route home than I normally would have. This shot is a result of that detour. And so, yeah, this shot was actually taken in Idaho. Never in my life, either before or since, have I seen such vivid autumn colors. Entire mountainsides were engulfed in the most vivid reds, yellows, and oranges imaginable.
