23.05.13 - Falling Skies

Yesterday was very stormy, giving great photo opportunities. Amazingly I managed to walk into town and back, a total of 8 miles, without getting wet, but I was very lucky!

Thankyou for the wonderful comments on my baby swan collage yesterday, I'll keep and eye on them and other swan families for you :)

Here is another shot from nearby;

21.02.13 - Chimneys

The cathedral is obviously the star of this shot, but I think it is the silhouetted chimneys along the bottom that really make it for me. This is from last night's guided photo walk and is quite a difficult viewpoint that most photographers aren't aware of. You have to climb a wall behind a car park, and part of the grass bank below the Castle walls. Not the place to linger on a bitterly cold evening :)
16.02.13 - In the Shadow of the Past

I thought this was an interesting perspective, and not one I've seen before. As I took the dog out across the fields yesterday afternoon I could see this about to happen so was ready with my long lens. The dog walker was on a parallel path to us, walking in the opposiite direction. She is about 200 yards away, the Cathedral is about 4 miles away. About 30 minutes after this we had a beautiful sunset, but as this is a more unique shot I'm using it for my Daily :)
25.01.13 - Room With a View

This is another shot from Thursday's guided photo walk, but only processed yesterday. This is also from one of the balconies at the Double Tree by Hilton, same as yesterday's pic, but looking north-east to the Cathedral rather than south across Brayford Pool. You can see some snow left in the hotel car park below. There was another fall overnight, but the weather is forecast to warm up now so expect muddy shots for the next few days :)
25.01.13 - Cathedral

Another shot from my photo walk on Thursday, but only processed yesterday. The balconies on the Double Tree by Hilton hotel are going to be very popular viewpoints for photographers in the future!

Here is a wider view to show where this was taken from;

13.01.13 - What's Up Doc?

We finished the pick-up filming for our 2nd Doctor Who fan film "Untimely Death" yesterday. We were done early and there was still light in the sky so we wandered down to the cathedral for a few extra still shots. The Doctor (Spencer Kennedy) and his companion "Alice" (Bryony Roberts) asked if I wanted them to pose in any particular way, I said "no, just do your thing), so they did, much to the amusement of passers by and tourists :)

A few of you asked where the movie can be seen? Eventually it will be released free on the internet, once final editing is completed. Our first film "The Mystery of Rorrim" is available here;

and there is a trailer for the much darker "Untimely Death" here;

Both movies were shot on zero budget with a cast and crew of volunteers, and are practice/fun for bigger projects in the future
10.01.13 - Cathedral in the Mist

This is from my guided photo walk last night. As forecast it was one of those evenings night photographers dream of, mist and low cloud turning the area around the Cathedral into a magical wonderland of golden light and mystery. This is a new perspective, every time it gets harder to find one, but I keep trying! To get it I had to lay on my back against a wall looking almost straight up, and yes it was taken hand held at 10/16th of a second! I took several to make sure I nailed it, most came out OK, I was braced very tight against the wall with my knees and elbows locked together. I must have looked very weird :)
12.12.12 - Emergence

The Cathedral is in there somewhere :)
11.12.12 - The Maid in the Mist

It is four years since I've managed to photograph this, a temperature inversion over the city with the cathedral floating serenely above everything. I hung around for a while hoping for a sharper line at the top of the fog, but all that happened was a slow dissipation. It was still a beautiful thing to see anyway :)
