Cold Front Arriving
15 April 2014 -- 105/365
Lincoln, Rhode Island
Yesterday's warm weather was short-lived. A cold front was rolling in this afternoon, which brought the temperatures back down to 50°F (10°C) and it was accompanied by extremely high winds. I went to Lincoln woods hoping to get some photos of folks attempting to fish in the strong winds, but what really caught my attention was this section along the dam. There was nobody fishing here because the water was being driven over the top of the dam and onto the grass. This, mind you, is before the heavy rains forecast for later today! I wanted to capture the turbulence in the water and the flooding being caused by the winds. The style of processing I selected was intended to emphasize that turmoil.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and boost white. I then took a second copy of the original back into Topaz B&W FX and used the same general controls but for an extremely high contrast version of the photo. I then layered the two b&w versions using a multiply overlay at 38% opacity. A levels adjustment was applied in PSE.
