Puddles formed in a low spot in this yard after a heavy rain. Across the road is a small public area - a tree-lined creek surrounded by a narrow floodplain. A mother mallard is raising her brood (I counted nine, though not all are visible in this picture) along the creek. She took advantage of the puddle to give her young ones a relatively safe outing.
