This assignment made me think about the 1930’s and what it meant for many people. I look at the couple in “American Gothic” and I see hard working, stoic, pious, midwesterners with a nice gothic farmhouse in the background. I assume they have a big barn with acreage, livestock and fields of grain.
Then I got to thinking about the poverty stricken share croppers and what their life must have been in the 1930’s. So I talked Ernest into posing for my photograph. As he was standing in front of the old barn he quipped “you do know that I am still waiting for my forty acres and a mule!”
I edited this by cropping the photograph and then used smart sharpen, levels, saturation filters. I finished off with a surreal filter in HDR FXPro2 and added a rust filter from my texture file.
