One of my favorite shots of the night sky in New Zealand. I didn't get an opportunity to do much night shooting due to cloudy skies. but this night on my way back from Wanaka the skies cooperated.
This is a section of the Milky Way that is not normally visible to the Northern hemisphere. The Southern Cross is visible in the center of the photo. The Greater Magellanic cloud is upper right.  If you look very closely, you can also see 4 meteor streaks that happened during the 20 second exposure.

Explanation:  we were at Sentinel Bridge attempting to capture images of the night sky when a Park Ranger arrived on the scene and proceded to stop passing cars for yet unknown infractions.  Naturally, "Ranger Rick" left his flashing red and blue lights on during the stops spoiling the dark necessary for a successful shoot but producing this unusual image.
