Ghost Town
April 18, 2018
Pitkin, Colorado is today a ghost town in the midst of a revival. Yay! But there are still remnants of it's past as a mining town deep in the mountains of Colorado.
According to Wikipedia: "Pitkin is a Town in Gunnison County, Colorado, United States. The population was 66 at the 2010 census, down from 124 at the 2000 Census.
Pitkin was founded in 1879, and is said to be Colorado's first mining camp west of the Continental Divide. Originally named Quartzville, it was renamed to honor Governor Frederick W. Pitkin."
This old building that houses the museum was closed when we were there, but I loved the old mining equipment and the mine car on the impromptu built rails around the museum.
"We didn't have movies in this little mining town. When I was 12 my mom took me to New York and I saw Bye Bye Birdie, with people singing and dancing, and that was it." ~ Margot Kidder
