Hey look it’s the Tesla factory!! Today we made the trek out to Fremont without even knowing if we’d be able to take a tour of the factory. I’d tried twice (in December and again in January) to schedule a tour, but the final word was that the place would be on lockdown from March 21st through April 5th–almost exactly the same window we had to visit. UGH! Not to be deterred, I decided it would be worth going out there and taking a swing at it anyway. As we walked up to some folks working at the service center, Emily prepared to cry up a storm while I went through my mental checklist of “Tesla BFFs” back in Texas for any name-dropping that might have been necessary. To our amazement, the service dude we talked to told us who to find and where. We found those people, and they told us to sit down while they did their best to squeeze us in. Long story short, we got squeezed!!
Now, due to an NDA I signed prior to the tour, I can’t say anything about it other than it was amazing and cool and I can’t wait to go back again in a few years. Even Emily had fun on the tour, and she HATES Tesla and all new technology! I’m pretty sure she cried a little. We were hoping to see an X on display at the factory, but there wasn’t one there that we could see. Since we were taking the Cupertino-Mountain View-Palo Alto route back to SF, we stopped at the Tesla store in Palo Alto to see if we would get lucky. Nope! But we did find a quaint little creamery in town that satisfied our lunch craving.
