Golden Gate Moon
A moonrise over San Francisco. On an adventure away from my at-the-time home-base in the city, I was setting up for this iconic perspective of San Francisco as viewed from the Marin Headlands when to my total delight, the moon began to rise through the fog. I was completely stunned, and as I struggled to "keep it together" I captured a bunch of frames, this being the most captivating. Because of the speed at which the moon makes it ascent from the horizon, as I recall this particular perspective was fleeting at best. That same night I was also able to help with a tourist who had injured his leg falling off an old military turret in the night (utilizing my Boy Scout training and a cell phone with 911 on speed-dial). Some might think this is a HDR manipulation of multiple exposures, but in truth it was just a moment in time captured with only minor edits for color on a Canon 40D and a Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS on a not-so-fancy tripod. Thankfully I was capturing RAW images (as I still do) so years later (2014) I am able to process the image and preserve as much detail as is possible. The EIXF data was lost at some point in a conversion from RAW to TIFF around 2010 so I'd have to guess on the aperture of about f/5.6. Either way, WHAT A NIGHT!
