It was designed in 1746 by the Hungarian architect Carlos Mardel and was built to receive and distribute the water collected by the Águas Livres Aqueduct. In its interior, a water cistern which integrates the waterfall, has the capacity of 5,500 m3 and 7 m deep. Due to its beauty and grandeur, the Reservatório da Mãe d’Água das Amoreiras is a unique place to hold cultural events, which enables the Water Museum to make an important contribution to the development of different artistic genders and to the dissemination of culture.
