These are from a different section of the walls. More acronyms and letters, and less cartoon figures.

I imagine those who tagged these walls are the independent, nomadic, anti-authority type. Therefore, they don't necessarily like to follow organizational structure and yet, there is order in these drawings where they don't draw over each other works. Independent, but still kind of orderly I think.

It reminded me of the Kyrgyz who lives in northeastern Afghanistan. You see, the Kyrgyz are not taggers like this people in Austin, but they are also independent people and don't readily agree on everything or easily follow a leader. They are nomads and live in tents, called yurt. Their leader is called a Khan. A joke among the Kyrgyz is if you put 3 people in a yurt and come back an hour later, you'll find 5, Khans. So come back an hour later and see how many khans you'll find among these taggers as well. Yet, given this, there is order in both of their societies.

As I said there are many ways you can show the walls and this is a hand held video clip using my cellphone. The photos are one thing but looking at it on a jittery hand held video is another thing. This is just to give you a flavor of it, so the video is definitely not to be judged for it photographic merits.

Not sure if it makes a lot of difference, but I also put this on Vimeo since it seems to have less compression effects there. Here: https://vimeo.com/63039955
What is this? Hang on. I was driving in an Austin, TX neighborhood, away from the tourist area when I saw these tagged walls on a hill. (Here: 30.276036 -97.753084 or click the " map this" button on top of this page) So, after what I considered a legal U-turn, I got to the base of the wall. And this is what I saw, walls full of colorful tags. Like they said, "Keep Austin Weird".

Interestingly enough, if you go to approximately 1009 Baylor St, Austin, TX and look at street view on Google, you'll see the walls when they were bared. This is as of 3.28.13 so Street View might update that in the future. If you ask me, I prefer this colorful version and, I definitely prefer my version of the photo. Absolutely surprising.
