This photo shows that you shouldn't always use a circular polarizer when shooting outside. The polarizer reduces glare and reflections, so this would be a diferent image if I took away that golden reflection.

Niagara Falls as the sun rises. This was taken in January, after several days of warm weather. Usually the railings are covered with ice at this time of year, but a brief warming period in January is quite common.
