July 22 - The final day of vacation brought an unplanned side trip into the hills northwest of Scranton, Pennsylvania. In the main photo, I am standing underneath one of the arches of the Tunkhannock Viaduct. This is the largest concrete railroad viaduct in the world. It is over 2,000 feet long, 240 feet high and wide enough for two freight trains to pass each other. At over a mile away, it still dominates the landscape.
To give some perspective on the size, I have inset a picture of a larger segment of the bridge in the lower right corner. If you look carefully, a freight train can be seen passing by.
