If some day you decide to look through my entire gallery of ever growing nature shots, you'll notice this fellow in quite a few of them. He is the Nicobar pigeon, and the most amazingly colored of all the inhabitants here in the tropic house of the Central Park zoo.
I come here usually to test out some new camera equipment, or improve my focusing techniques on fast moving twitchy subjects. The Nicobar seems to be less twitchy than most, however his plumage is probably the most fascinating in that it's a;ways changing depending on the light it in.
Many others in here have more brilliant plumage, but usually they always appear the same color regardless of whether they are in sunlight or shadow. But this guy can change even in the same light just from turning his body when he's facing you.
I've sen him appear to be everything from near solid black to, dark green, blue (like here), shiny blue, and even rainbow colored. That one you'll see in some photo's I will upload in a day or two. Quite an amazing bird. Love the neck feathers, almost make him look like he has dreads!
