Jose Peon Contreras Opera House
I love when a rare opportunity come my way and I'll admit that I was feeling pretty darn special when a city cop took us past the guard on duty and into the Mérida Opera House after hours.
I was in the covered foyer admiring the architecture and for no reason he invited Sharie and I upstairs for a closer look of the columns on the upper floor. I'm guessing since we were both so impressed with the finish detailing that he decided to step up the tour and show us right into to the opera room. He brought us into the last door on the right of this photo (Same level) where he also allowed us to take photos. I was surprised but never hesitated at all even though the lights were only on very very dim but I assumed the images would be memories and keepsakes at best.
After showing us the opera room I thought we were done and being escorted out but he brought us to another set of doors that when he pulled opened told us was the Presidential seating area. I figured I would press my luck and take a few pictures from here too and it was also allowed. (Yes!)
