The Granite Sentry - Originally built in 1871, the Rose Blanche Lighthouse of southwestern Newfoundland was constructed out of granite from a nearby quarry. It is easy to see that the granite occurs naturally by looking at the rocky outcrop where the lighthouse stands. The all in one lighthouse and keepers house was restored in 1999. Foggy Beacon - What started out as a crisp clear morning, ended up being a foggy chilly afternoon. As we climbed the hill to the Rose Blanche Lighthouse, the fog settled in and we were lucky to snap a few photos before the lighthouse was totally obscured. Even with the fog, the interior of the lighthouse has been redone complete with furnishings so it makes and interesting step back in time. Stock Image #20110723-124416
The Louisbourg Lighthouse, originally completed in 1734 looks over the Fortress Louisbourg providing navigational aide to the rocky area. The original lighthouse was badly damaged during the final siege of Louisburg. The lighthouse pictured was completed in 1923 and automated in 1990. Stock Image #20110726-143442
