The original Pietenpol Air Camper was designed in 1928 by Bernard H. "Bernie" Pietenpol of Spring Valley, Minnesota. The plans for the Air Camper were originally published in a four part serial in the "Flying and Glider" Manual of 1932-33. One of Pietenpol's goals was to create an airplane that was affordable and easy to construct for home builders using basic wood and metal working skills, and I'd have to say he accomplished his goal. The Pietenpol Air Camper is a very popular model, even in this high-tech age.
This particular aircraft was built by a fellow named Baum in 1964 and was constructed from original 1936 plans. When the current owner first purchased it, it was fitted with a Model A engine, but the owner reluctantly replaced it with a Continental A65 engine so he could carry passengers.
