Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red
The Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red exhibition at the Tower of London marks one hundred years since the first full day of Britain's involvement in the First World War. 888,246 ceramic poppies have progressively filled the Tower's famous moat over the summer. Each poppy represents a British military fatality during the war.
Seeing the extent and multitude of the poppies brings home the magnitude and scale of the horror of war. Most of those who lost their lives would have been in their 20's and 30's.
