Towards the Tsutenkaku Tower.
Shinsekai, Osaka.
The Shinsekai area and surrounding neighbourhoods are considered to be Japan's most dangerous, however on a world wide scale they're pretty safe, I've seen worse areas of Perth. This street with restaurants along it seems to be the only place still in thriving with businesses in Shinsekai. The rest of the area seems to be pretty much closed up and left to rot apart from a couple of shops here and there. There's a lot of interesting characters hanging about the streets, some of them came up and talked to us, just being friendly.

Shuttle Bus Stop.
This is the stop outside Hankyu Saiin Station in Kyoto to catch the shuttle bus to the Aeon Mall which used to be known as Diamond City Hana, but is now simply just another Aeon Mall, though this one in particular is the largest Shopping Mall in Kyoto. They charge 100yen each way for the shuttle bus, which is cheaper than a regular bus for the same distance, but come on you're charging customers who don't have a car to come to you shopping mall!!!
Ritsuko at Shakey's Pizza in Kyoto.
A while ago Ritsuko watched the video Caine's Arcade, which was inspiring. The star Caine happens to like going to Shakey's Pizza. Well, we found out there was store in Kyoto and decided to try it out. The Pizza was very delicious and it was only about 900yen for all you can eat Pizza, Pasta, Curry and Salad. Considering a pizza from Pizza Hut, Dominoes, etc cost more than 2000 yen here, I'd say Shakey's is a bargain.
Red Window.
On a cafe along Tetsugaku-no-michi (the path of philosophy).
Typical for Japan it wasn't open at 9:00am in the morning, in Australia some cafes opened at 7:00 or even earlier.
Makino Church.
I went to Makino Church for the New Year's Day service. The last time I went there was in the summer of 2011, that time it was hotter in the prefab building than it was outside even with three air conditioners running. This time during a 2C day it was nice and warm inside the church, finally a building in Western Japan that's made for winter!
Trains Stopped at JR Nagaokakyo Station.
All the trains in both directions between Osaka and Kyoto had stopped on the JR lines. Read my caption on the previous photo to see how Japan's superb public transport system still got me to where I wanted to go.
Station Closed!
I went to catch the JR train to Kyoto, but the station was closed and all the JR trains between Kyoto and Osaka had stopped due to an incident. However, fortunately our town has another railway company which goes between Osaka and Kyoto that is Hankyu. So I just caught the bus over to the Hankyu station, then hopped on the Hankyu train to Kyoto (which was way more crowded than usual) and then changed on to the Subway that took me to Kyoto JR Station. I love Japan, where else in the world is there this much redundancy in the public transport network?
