I got up at 5 AM on the morning before our workshop group convened for its first dinner, so that I could drive along the Rio Grande River canyon, north of Española, starting at Embudo Station at dawn.
But Embudo Station, preserved for many years as one of the old narrow-gauge railway stops on a train line running from somewhere in Colorado down to Santa Fe, had shut down and was in some disrepair.
So I continued driving north, and stopped at an old wooden foot-bridge that I had seen dozens of times over the years, as I drove back and forth between Taos and Albuquerque.
