Police said they received a report about 12:32 pm on May 5 that a vehicle had crashed through some fencing and landed in Pogond Brook at 151 Mt Pleasant Road (Route 6) in Hawleyville, so they went there to investigate. Police found a 2003 Honda CRV in the brook alongside the road at Newtown Power Equipment, Inc. Police said that motorist Isaiah Koikos, 21, of Bridgewater had been driving the vehicle when it was involved in the accident. Police report they located Koikos several miles from the scene of the accident, after which he was transported by ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening head injuries. Police said they charged Koikos with evading responsibility and with making a restricted turn. Koikos was released on $500 bail for a May 21 court appearance.   (Hicks photo)

Police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident near 51 Berkshire Road (Route 34) about 2:30 pm on May 6. All vehicles were headed eastward when the incident occurred. Police said that motorist Andrew Torick, 70, of Murrysville, Penn., who was driving a 2012 Kia Soul SUV containing one passenger, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Kathleen Lasiw, 63, of Stratford, who was driving a 2003 Mazda Protégé sedan, stopped behind the Kia. Motorist Christopher Morrissey, 51, of Quincy, Mass., who was driving a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, then struck the rear end of  the Mazda, pushing the Mazda into the rear end of the Kia, police said. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members responded to the scene to check the Kia's driver and a Kia passenger, police said. Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters also responded. Police report they issued Morrissey a written warning for following too closely.   (Hicks photo)
Residents came out to welcome riders arriving in Sandy Hook as they entered town from Monroe near Great Quarter Road Sunday, May 5. Flags were a common sight along the route taking the Green Ribbon Ride from Shelton, through Newtown, to Trumbull.   (Bobowick photo)
