One Grey Day
09 December 2013 -- 343/365
East Providence, Rhode Island
Today was a day where nothing worked (photographically speaking.) There was a steady mist all afternoon, and visibility was very low. There wasn't really any fog, but the mist and flat light kept the visibility to a minimum. I went to Crescent Park hoping to get a photo similar to what you see here. There's almost always a sailboat or two moored off-shore here, and I was really hoping to get a photo of a boat getting lost in the distant mist with something interesting in the foreground. Unfortunately, it was high tide, so the foreground was limited to an extremely narrow strip of sand and all of the pilings that line the shore were under water. This lone rock was the closest I could find to something I could use as a foreground attention-getter. Not what I wanted, but it's what the setting presented. All told, I took about a dozen different photos in this area, and didn't care for any of them. It was definitely not one of my better photography days.
Post processing started with a highlight recovery filter in Topaz Adjust. I then adjusted adaptive exposure, regions, and contrast. A levels adjustment was added just to the foreground.
