While You Were Sleeping
When I was about 14 I had a paper route. I got up early and rode my bike around the whole neighborhood in the dark. I had the whole place to myself. Hundreds of people slept while I snuck up on their porches and left their papers. I got to know crows and dogs and cats that lived all over the neighborhood. I LOVED that gig.
Lately I've been waking up at 5 am, spontaneously. I'm getting back to having my camera bag ready to go for mornings like this. While I was taking this photo up on Magnolia Hill, commuters were starting to leave their houses and I felt a pang of resentment that they were intruding into my silent world.
