Elk Lake Vista - Spring 2013
Allium ×proliferum, also called Common Onion, Egypitian Walking Onion, Egyptian Onion, and Tree onions, are a common, herbaceous perennial onion in Maine gardens. The greens are edible and especially good in spring when they are tender. They can be used like scallion greens but have a stronger onion flavor. The flowering tops turn into bulbs that then drop from their own weight to the ground where they then root, thus "walking" across a garden..
