Parade of Ships
On the Independence Day weekend of 1977, a parade of ocean liners was held in New York Harbor, as seven of the vessels left Manhattan in quick succession. Here the liner Statendam heads down the Hudson, while the USN minesweeper Illusive salutes the parade with flags flying.
The Statendam was later sold by Holland America and was scrapped in 2004. The Illusive was decommissioned in 1990 and sold for scrap by the Navy for $12,000.
