Lagoon Bridge Lights
Boston Lagoon Bridge in the Public Garden with George Washington statue lit up in the foreground.
Boston's Lagoon Bridge was designed by William Gibbons Preston and built in 1861. Constructed of gray granite, the bridge was originally of the suspension type and the wooden deck was held up by the decorative wrought iron chain affair.
The steps at all four locations have been rebuilt to their original configuration, complete with bronze railings. The project also involved the restoration of the iron fence which surrounds the entire Public Garden and is over one mile in length. The historic fence has been rehabilitated to a first class restored condition. The restored bridge was rededicated by the City of Boston in October, 1996.
